Braves' Lucas Sims Earns Save in Impressive Debut

Atlanta Braves' Lucas Sims Pitched a Perfect Inning, Striking Out Two

Rookie Right-Hander Made His Major League Debut on Saturday

Atlanta Braves rookie right-hander Lucas Sims made his major league debut on Saturday, striking out two batters in a perfect inning to earn the save in a 5-3 victory over the Miami Marlins. Sims, who was called up from Triple-A Gwinnett on Friday, entered the game in the top of the ninth inning with the Braves clinging to a one-run lead.

The 21-year-old Sims, who was the Braves' first-round pick in the 2012 MLB Draft, threw 17 pitches, 11 of which were strikes. He got Derek Dietrich to ground out to start the inning, then struck out J.T. Realmuto and Martin Prado to end the game.

Sims' performance was a bright spot for the Braves, who have struggled in the bullpen this season. The Braves' bullpen has a 4.72 ERA, which is 26th in the majors. Sims' save was the Braves' first since April 22.
