Rwanda Plan Supreme Court

Supreme Court Rules Government's Rwanda Plan Unlawful

Court Upholds Court of Appeal Ruling

Plan Would Leave People Sent to Rwanda Without Effective Access to Justice

The Supreme Court has ruled that the government's plan to send asylum seekers to Rwanda is unlawful. The court upheld a Court of Appeal ruling that said the policy leaves people sent to Rwanda without effective access to justice.

The case will now go back to the High Court, which will consider whether the government can legally implement the policy.

The government has said it will "carefully consider" the ruling and "take all necessary steps to ensure that our immigration policies are compliant with the law."

The policy has been widely criticized by human rights groups, who say it is unethical and inhumane. The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has said that the policy "flies in the face of international law".

The government has defended the policy, saying it is necessary to deter people from making dangerous journeys across the English Channel. The government says that the policy will "break the business model of criminal gangs" that smuggle people across the Channel.

The ruling is a major setback for the government, which has made reducing illegal immigration a key policy objective. The government has said that it will continue to explore other ways to reduce immigration.
